We find ourselves at a moment in time when many of us are looking toward others to lead. Yet, simultaneously, we are questioning what leadership entails and represents, not for the elite but for the majority.
There are often deep misconceptions about the leadership roles that women play in the Middle East, particularly when it comes to economic, political and societal development. However, there is mounting evidence – anecdotal and empirical – that indicate it is actually women who are the primary change makers – this is nowhere more evident than in how women are pushing for action on sustainable development and climate change.
This book is primarily about women leaders and stating the case for more female leadership. The Middle East is used as case study, to shine a spotlight on case studies and examples of this leadership – and its application to the sustainability agenda.
The purpose of this much-needed book is to shine a light on many of the amazing women in the region who are driving change across societies and economies – women as formidable forces seeking to shape a more sustainable, climate-aligned and equitable world. The intention is to tell their stories, share their learnings and capture their transformative work.
