Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026
It’s been a really good few days at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week – ADSW and World Future Energy Summit.
I particularly enjoyed speaking on the panel on mobilising private capital through blended finance with Matteo Spagnolo Sabrin Rahman Constance Chalchat Ahmed Badr Aymen Koubaa. There’s a lot of noise around blended finance right now, but from where I sit, the fundamentals are quite simple: if we want private capital to show up at scale, we need to stop asking it to behave like philanthropy … but also stop asking public capital to behave like a commercial investor … (also – how fantastic to speak on a panel with a balanced gender split!)
On the ground in West and Central Africa, what we at TeraVert and Solve Strategies see time and again is that private capital isn’t allergic to risk; it’s allergic to unpriced, opaque, and misallocated risk. Most climate and green projects do not fail because they are unviable … they fail because early-stage risks are sitting in the wrong part of the capital stack.
That’s where blended finance really matters: its role is to move the RIGHT risks to the RIGHT actors, at the RIGHT time.
