Welcoming the new year
I love the new year. There is something about it that forces you to reflect, but more importantly, look forward and set goals. In 2019, my New Year’s resolution was to write a book – the concept of which I had been carrying around in my head for several years. Turns out that writing a book was the one resolution I have actually stuck to! In November, I submitted the manuscript to my publisher and now await news of when it will hit the shelves in 2020. I feel like a champion.
Why I wrote the book
Over the last few years, I have been waking up with an overwhelming feeling that I am not doing enough. Even worse – I am beginning to question whether I am part of the actual problem.
Sure, I am making attempts to live a more sustainable and cleaner life, but overall these feel pretty woeful, if I am truly honest. I am sure there is lot more that I can do. In fact, I could probably encourage other people to do more if I really put my mind to it, because I know that I am not the only person who feels this way.
And I guess that is what my book was all about. A bold attempt to encourage us to think about things differently, in an aspect of our life that we so easily overlook – MONEY. It was my attempt to take what I know about professionally, and share what I am learning about personally, in the hope that it provides someone somewhere with the impetus to make some changes.
What’s next?
I genuinely believe that sustainable investing presents an opportunity for people like you and me to start influencing other aspects of our collective lives. We don’t have to be pawns in the financial world, where someone else makes decisions on our behalf. We can educate and empower ourselves to demand better from the financial industry.
You don’t need millions to start investing. And you certainly don’t need millions to invest in alignment with what you believe in. My goal for 2020 is simple: to continue to empower more and more women with the knowledge to start taking financial action. My goal is to continue to build our movement of engaged and savvy investors who want to make conscious and directed decisions.
Yours sustainably,
Jessica
